Team

In 2025, we are honoured to launch the first edition of the SUP International Artist-in-Residence Programme in Taiwan, hosted in partnership with the National Changhua University of Education (NCUE).

The Starting Point of International Collaboration -

“NCUE x SUP 2025 Taiwan-UK Artist Residency and Exchange Programme”

The origin of this Taiwan-based residency programme began with a warm human connection. A student of Professor Li-Yan Wang from National Changhua University of Education (NCUE) happened to be the cousin of Samantha (Yun-Ting) Huang, Co-director of SUP Taiwan. It was through this personal link that the two parties had their first interaction. Since January 2024, they began in-depth conversations and discovered a shared passion and vision for arts education and international exchange, gradually developing what would become this collaborative programme.

Co-developed and led by NCUE Fine Art Professor Wang and SUP Taiwan Co-director Huang, the “NCUE x SUP 2025 Taiwan-UK Artist Residency and Exchange Programme” was built from the ground up—tailored to the needs, aspirations, and development of NCUE students and the local arts community. The programme’s goal is to design an international artist-in-residence initiative that enriches an arts university programme in Changhua. It aims to broaden students’ international perspectives while ensuring the programme’s practicality and sustainability, and to foster aspirational student growth and the development of a broader arts ecosystem.

This is not a short-term or performative initiative, but rather a long-term contribution to the advancement of arts education in Taiwan. SUP is committed to fostering meaningful and lasting cultural exchange - ensuring that the programme grows deeply and remains closely connected to academia, ecology, local culture and creativity.

We extend our sincere thanks to the President of NCUE, the College of Liberal Arts, the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs, the Office of General Affairs, the Office of Student Affairs, the Environmental Education Center, the Department of Fine Arts office, and the student association of the Fine Arts Department for their strong support in making this programme deeply rooted within the campus.

We also sincerely thank Associate Professor Wen-Cheng Chiu, current Chair of the Department of Fine Arts, for his participation and support, which encouraged enthusiastic involvement from faculty and students. Our gratitude also goes to the Changhua City Mayor’s Office for its generous support, which allowed the programme to reach into the local community and facilitate cultural and artistic exchange.

Finally, we are deeply grateful to all the faculty and students participating in the programme - their enthusiasm and valuable feedback continues to drive the programme forward and ensure that our work remains responsive to the needs of the community, embodying meaningful cultural and educational impact.

SUP Taiwan’s Vision and Role

Led by co-directors Samantha Huang and Amit Rai Sharma, SUP Taiwan is founded on the belief in a long-term connection between art and society, seeking to explore collaborative possibilities both locally and internationally.

With extensive cross-disciplinary experience in the UK’s art, cultural, and educational sectors, the two co-directors bring a forward-thinking and adaptable strategic approach to SUP Taiwan. Their background allows the platform to remain open, responsive, and tailored to different regional contexts.

At its core, SUP believes that art is deeply embedded in public life and social structures, creating bridges between education, workplaces, local institutions, and grassroots communities. Our work in Taiwan reflects this philosophy — transforming international experience into localised models of collaboration, while broadening the scope and depth of cultural exchange.

During the three-month "NCUE x SUP 2025 Taiwan-UK Artist Residency and Exchange Programme," the SUP team has been actively expanding its artistic network across Changhua, Taipei, Taichung, and Tainan. Through partnerships with galleries, art institutions, and independent collectives, we aim to provide artists and students with creative opportunities that extend beyond the traditional classroom or studio setting.

SUP Taiwan Inaugural Resident Artist | NCUE x SUP 2025

Danny Young’s sculptural and installation practice addresses themes of social class, identity, and underrepresented visual cultures. Rooted in his Welsh working-class background, Danny’s work provides a thought-provoking contrast to Changhua’s cultural traditions. Throughout his residency, Danny has been critically examining the relationships between cultural and social environments and structures through his experimental approach to sculpture; combining traditional craftsmanship with digital sculpting technologies. Danny's non-stop engagement has led to many fruitful exchanges of skills, ideas, and techniques as well as developing his knowledge of Taiwan's unique sculpting materials and processes

  • Margarita Frančeska Loze

SUP Taiwan Inaugural Resident Artist | NCUE x SUP 2025

Margarita’s work is a celebration of the poetics of the ordinary and her research focuses on experimental phenomenology, Lunar Phases and various forms of memory such as déjà vu and nostalgia. During the SUP residency at NCUE Margarita began looking into the phenomenological meanings of ‘roots,’ exploring their complexity and symbolic significance. Inspired by the region's natural landscape and its flower-growing industry, her work has taken inspiration from local traditions and seasonal rhythms. She has also explored the cultural significance of Taiwan's many temples, and her practice developed to incorporate the ornamental symbolism of mythical creatures into her embroidery work.

Through installation-based works, he reflects on memories and the complexities of human relationships, investigating vulnerability and interpersonal connections.

Central to his practice is the belief that every material and object possesses its own voice.
